Find out just how easy it can be to achieve healthy weight loss. This will show you exactly how to lose 5 pounds a week (every week) the healthy way!

Find out just how easy it can be to achieve healthy weight loss. This will show you exactly how to lose 5 pounds a week (every week) the healthy way!

When you're overweight everything you do is just harder. You lose your energy faster, your body hurts more quickly... it's just no fun at all.

A few years ago I had a health crisis that caused me to gain 80 pounds in 2 months. Yeah, it was exactly as awful as it sounds!

We knew we would never be able to homestead in the condition we were in at the time, so we set out to "fix" it. But it wasn't as simple as we thought it would be!

It ended up taking 7 years and about $35,000 to finally deal with the underlying issues, and once we got my health crisis dealt with, I had quite a lot of weight to lose. Fortunately with the help of the GAPS Diet and the Primal Blueprint, we were able to come up with a system that really worked for us.

This is the resulting combination of those two systems (I recommend reading both though to get the full pictures) that helped us get back to a healthy weight in no time!

This healthy weight loss method helped me drop most of my extra weight in about 4 months, without exercise, supplements, or shakes!

Overall I averaged a weight loss of 5lbs a week every single week with this system, but if you're not going to be super religious about it, then you can probably count on 2 pounds a week minimum.

I actually ended up losing 60 pounds in 12 weeks and kept it off (until I got pregnant of course!). Even after I had my sweet baby I was able to drop most of the weight in just a few weeks since I didn't gain that much with the pregnancy.

My husband joined me in my health quest and ended up losing 40 pounds himself!

How to Lose Weight Fast

While most people focus on cutting calories for weight loss, when you count carbs instead, the fat just melts away!

You can read more about how many carbs you need per day here, but I've found that for myself, my husband, my parents, and many friends who have done this, 60-80 carbs per day allows for a 2 pound per week loss and lets you keep a bit of chocolate or an occasional dining out meal.

If you want to hit that 5 pounds a week loss, get under 50 carbs per day.

The Easiest Way To Count Carbs

I am a total numbers nerd, but even I can't keep all my carbs in my head all day! So I used the easy food diary on Cronometer.com

Cronometer settings

To make sure you're tracking properly, here is the way you need to set up your account.

1. Start an account (it's free)
2. Click on the "Diary" tab at the top of the screen.
3. Scroll down to the "Calories Summary" section and click the gear on the right hand side.
4. Set your weight loss to -2 pounds a week and your Dynamic Macronutrient Targets to High Fat / Ketogenic.
5. Change the strictness under the diet type to "Moderate".
6. Click close and start adding your food!

TIP: Don't worry so much about the protein and fat sections, just look at the carb count. However, if you find that you are maxing out your fat section, then you need to find other foods to eat. When you eat too much fat your body won't burn the fat and you won't lose weight.

But you do NEED fat, so don't cut it out completely!

Best Foods to Eat

Earlier I mentioned that we combined the GAPS Diet and the Primal Blueprint. Basically we took what was allowed on both, cut out the honey and fruit items, and ate anything within those parameters that we wanted!

Fermented foods and bone broth played a large part in our healing and weight loss, and other than that we ate a LOT of vegetables!

To get the best results eating a lot of vegetables and very little fruit is what you need to do. By eating a lot of veggies and low (if not zero) fruit, you get a lot of food with just 50 carbs!

My favorite dish that gets in a ton of veggies, that tastes amazing, and is ridiculously easy to make is this Broccoli Casserole. Even the baby loves it!

Plus, one serving is only 4 carbs!

Another favorite is a simple salad of 4 cups of romaine lettuce, a handful of tomatoes, some green peas, and a healthy dose of homemade ranch dressing. Top the whole thing with half a chicken breast and this meal come in at 21 carbs!

Dark leafy greens and cruciferous veggies are the best for healing and kick starting your metabolism! Make sure you are having them at least once a day, 1-3 cups per serving.

In the end we were 100 pounds lighter and able to really get to work on our homesteading dreams!

I'm currently doing this healthy weight loss method again right now to get rid of some stress weight that has crept back on and in 2 weeks I'm already down 14 pounds!

With a huge garden in the works I know I need to be in top shape for all those long days of canning that are ahead of me!

I think it’s wonderful that you lost weight but eating low carb isn’t healthy. Low carb diets actually rob your body of much needed fuel. I eat lots of carbs now and no longer take medication for diabetes. I recommend that you watch Dr. McDougal and Potato Strong on YouTube. ?

When you eat low carb your body switches to using fat as fuel. So eating this way doesn’t starve you of fuel, it just changes what you use for fuel. I have more energy than ever and have been healed of all my ailments ?

However, there are lots of ways of eating that work, not just one. I’m glad you found one that works for you! ❤
