Heirloom seeds are all the rage with organic gardeners these days (and for good reason), but they can be very costly if you don't know where to get them. Find out how we save over 90% on our heirloom seeds!

Heirloom seeds are all the rage with organic gardeners these days, but they can be very costly if you don't know where to get them. Find out how we save over 90% on our heirloom seeds!

Maybe you're thinking that the seeds at your local grocery store or hardware store aren't all that expensive, so what's the big deal? I used to think the same thing... but you know how much I love crunching numbers!
And when I actually put pen to paper (or fingers to keys because I'm all about spreadsheets), I realized I could get high-quality heirloom seeds for a LOT less than we had been paying!

Why Save on Heirloom Seeds

Last fall we took about 2 hour to throw together our Back to Eden garden plots. We ended up grabbing 10 or so packets of seeds from the local grocery store and planting them just to see what would come up.

Turned out that everything came up and we got about 300 pounds of produce from a very late fall garden!

We were so thrilled with the results of that haphazard experiment that we knew we wanted to really put some time and effort into our spring garden.

After many revised garden layouts (on paper of course) and going back and forth about what we "needed" to grow, we settled on about 18 different plants we wanted to see growing and went online to buy the heirloom seeds.

Within a few days the seeds were at our door and I was so excited to plant! Well, what we found out was that even though our total had been low, there was a reason! Each pack was only enough for about 1/2 of a small row!

So for $50 we planted everything we bought and still have a ton of room left over. After looking at the number of actual seeds that went into the ground I realized that we weren't going to have enough to really feed our family (this includes my 3 family members, my parents, and my brother), like we had originally thought... much less have extras left over for canning and freezing.

Best Place for Quality Heirloom Seeds

I knew we were going to need drastically more seeds for the next garden and after crunching the numbers, I realized that we had paid $1.40 per 100 seeds we bought for the spring... but I found a place to buy them for only $0.12 per 100 seeds!! That's over 90% off!

Since I love buying things in bulk when it makes sense to, I was happy to find that buying heirloom seeds in bulk makes a whole heck of a lot of sense!

Heaven's Harvest is a family owned company from right here in the U.S. whose seeds are non-gmo, non-hybrid, open pollinated heirloom vegetable seeds that have stood the test of time and will actually produce real food for your family!

Not only will they produce food this year, but you can even save the seeds for next year with the confidence that they will produce food the next year too... which can't be said for all seeds. Even organic seeds may not produce again the first year, leaving you with worthless seeds if you saved them from your harvest.

Heaven's Harvest offers bulk seeds in a variety of sizes to fit the needs of your family, however, I like the biggest one as it offers the largest variety of vegetable options.

And since I know I'm going to be planting a garden year after year, I also liked the idea of locking in my pricing. Plus, the seeds packets are in resealable mylar bags to keep them fresh for up to 10 years!

Here are some of the awesome heirloom seeds kits you can get at crazy low prices:

  • The Condo Kit that contains 67,000 seeds (12 varieties)

  • The Neighborhood Kit that contains 88,000 seeds (24 varieties)

  • The Homestead Kit that contains 130,000 seeds (38 varieties)

Thanks for sharing this great resource! I love growing heirloom and have spent a minor fortune on seeds over the years. I’m forever trying new varieties to see what grows best in my area and try to save seed from plants which grow well so my seed spending is a little bit less the following year!
