Learn how to grow your own zucchini at home. It's simple!

After growing zucchini in our homestead garden for 7 years, we are sharing all our tips and tricks with you!

PLANTING ZUCCHINI

Wait until after the last frost and plant each seed or seedling about 5 feet apart in a prepped garden area.

CARING FOR ZUCCHINI

Water at the base only to avoid powdery mildew. Treat with compost tea or manure to fertilize.

POWDERY MILDEW

If you start to see powdery mildew (above) reduce watering and increase the space between plants.

BLOSSOM END ROT

If you see zucchini starting to rot on the plant, treat by pouring 1 quart of milk around the base of each plant.

HARVESTING ZUCCHINI

Zucchini is best harvested when 6-8" long. Use gloves and shears to avoid prickly leaves and stem! Keep large zucchini for seeds or other recipes.
