15 Dessert Recipes without Refined Sugar

Something that I hear from some of my readers is that they want to enjoy desserts without all the sugar. And I agree! While I share full-sugar recipes on my site, they are meant to be very occasional treats. We don’t even make most of them once a year!

But when we do, I recognize them for what they are… rare treats… I enjoy the taste of nostalgia or tradition, and I move on! However, what about desserts that can be enjoyed a bit more often and without the ramifications of refined sugar?

That’s where this list comes in! I wanted to share a few of my favorite dessert recipes that are naturally refined sugar free!

Chocolate Mousse Recipe

Make this rich, decadent chocolate mousse recipe without adding any extra refined sugar! The sweetness is derived naturally from the chocolate, and a splash of coffee gives it extra richness.

Homemade Marshmallows

DIY Marshmallows are a fun time that every kid enjoys, but they are typically loaded with ingredients like corn syrup! This recipe forgoes all the refined sugars and syrups for a clean, tasty, lightly sweet treat.

Chocolate Fudge

Classic Fantasy Fudge contains a decent amount of white sugar, whereas this recipe for maple syrup-sweetened fudge has none!

Dark Chocolate

For all those who didn’t know, not only can chocolate be made at home, but it’s super easy as well. This recipe offers several different options instead of refined sugar! We prefer using maple syrup now, but the original version using honey is also amazing!

Strawberry Zucchini Fruit Leather in a Mason Jar

Strawberry Zucchini Fruit Leather

Fruit leather is a fun option to make at home because it’s always popular with kids, a snack you can feel good about giving them, and a great way to get some extra fruit (and veggies) into their diet. This recipe is made from zucchini, strawberries, fruit juice, and a touch of honey!

Dairy free french silk pie slice on a white plate

French Silk Pie

French silk pie is always a winner when served for dessert. This recipe offers a dairy, nut, and soy-free option, that is naturally sweetened and can be modified to be gluten-free as well. The only thing it isn’t free of is flavor!

Strawberry crumble finished in a large cast iron baking pan

Strawberry Crumble

There’s something extra cozy about a warm fruit crumble fresh from the oven, with bubbling fruit and a perfectly crisp topping. This version skips the refined sugar, making it a sweet treat you can feel even better about enjoying!

Peanut Butter Swirl Brownies

Some people think that avoiding refined sugars means classic desserts are largely off the table, but that doesn’t have to be the case. These peanut butter swirl brownies are warm, rich, and delicious while still staying on the natural side of sweetness!

Banana Cinnamon Whipped Cream Dessert in a small glass jar with banana slices next to it

Banana Cinnamon Whipped Cream Dessert

Keep things simple with this amazing banana cinnamon whipped cream. You know how much I love homemade banana pudding, but this naturally sweetened version is delicious too! Plus, using full-fat, unpasteurized sour cream naturally adds loads of probiotics and nutrients!

Peach Blueberry Cobbler slice on a white plate with a gold fork

Peach Blueberry Cobbler

Blueberry and peach are one of those flavor pairings that just belong together! This delicious cobbler brings both together in every bite, finished with a buttery, crunchy crumble topping that makes it even more irresistible.

Homemade twix bars stacked on a piece of parchment paper

Homemade Twix Bars

Homemade Twix bars are already an amazing idea, and these come with a twist. Using blended dates creates a natural “caramel” that adds loads of sweetness while keeping things healthy!

naturally Oatmeal Cream Pies stacked on a cake tray

Oatmeal Cream Pies

Choosing to eat a more whole-foods diet means leaving things like processed snack cakes and cookies behind. Thankfully, these homemade oatmeal cream pies are just as good as (or better than) the prepackaged store-bought version!

a homemade lime bar on a white plate

Lime Bars

While I’m a huge fan of homemade lemon bars, I do recognize that they have a large amount of refined sugar in them! We have them rarely, but still… However, these lime bars are also delicious and add a lovely sweetness to the end of any meal!

a large batch of Peanut Butter Fudge sliced on a wooden cutting board

Peanut Butter Fudge

This peanut butter fudge feels like kitchen wizardry in candy form. With just two ingredients, it somehow transforms into a rich, creamy fudge that tastes like it took far more effort than it actually did, and it turns out beautifully every single time!
