Peach cobbler is one of my favorite spring/summer desserts. It’s fresh, it’s simple, and it’s perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. But there’s not always time to whip up a full peach cobbler with that delicious flaky crust…

So I came up with an alternative. During a busy day while my in-laws were visiting, I had a craving for homemade peach cobbler… but with family visiting and a bunch of homesteading tasks, I knew that was a pipe-dream!

However, with just a few minutes of effort, I was able to pull together all the best parts of peach cobbler with a fraction of the work.

Easy Homemade Peach Crumble

I knew I didn’t want to use a box mix for the crumble. Instead, I used a simple (but seriously delicious) mix of flour, butter, sugar, and eggs.

Combined, they create a delightfully crunchy layer on top that is spiced to perfection! Plus, it only takes 5 minutes to get this in the oven, making it a great last-minute dessert!

Ingredients

Let’s take a quick look at the ingredients needed for this recipe! I talk about a few options and substitutions here as well. The full printable recipe with measurements can be found at the end of the post.

For the Filling

  • Brown Sugar – Helps create the perfect depth of flavor for the filling.
  • Flour – Thickens the juices from the peaches. Any all-purpose flour will do, or cornstarch could be used if needed.
  • Pumpkin Pie Spice – While you can just use cinnamon, I have found that the combination of spices in pumpkin pie spice is preferable!
  • Peaches – I prefer using fresh peaches for the best texture. However, frozen peaches will also work well here. I would refrain from using canned peaches, if possible, as they will have a much softer texture. The taste will still be delicious with canned peaches, just softer!

For the Crumble

  • Sugar – For this, we use white sugar. However, you can use maple sugar, coconut sugar, or panela! Any zero-calorie 1:1 sugar substitute will also work well.
  • Flour – Any all-purpose flour will work. We use einkorn flour. If using whole wheat or fresh milled, adjust the thickness of the batter with a little water or milk if it’s too thick. Or add more flour if it’s too runny.
  • Pumpkin Pie Spice – More spices are used in the topping to bring it all together. We use this homemade pumpkin pie spice, but use what you have on hand!
  • Baking Soda – This gives the crumble a wonderful light texture.
  • Salt – I recommend using sea salt, as table salt will not have the same flavor, but use what you have!
  • Egg – A whole egg is required, however, if you need to use only one part of the egg (all whites, or all yolk), double the amount.
  • Butter – Cut into pieces and placed on top of the crumble, the butter melts into the dough as it cooks to form a delightful finished product! We use salted butter, but unsalted butter will not change the flavor of the dish significantly.

  2. Coat – Slice peaches directly into the bowl and toss to coat.

  4. Fill – Add peaches to a medium-sized baking dish. Spoon the topping over the peaches.
  5. Top – Slice butter into 12-15 pieces and space them evenly on top of the crumble.
  6. Bake – Bake for 30 – 35 minutes.

That’s the dream! My husband’s aunt had 3 HUGE peach trees in her backyard that yielded so many peaches every year… then one day she completely cut them down! I was SO SAD!!
