Green grape pie is an old-fashioned pie recipe that you may not have heard of before.

However, once you try it, you’ll be hooked! With a very similar flavor profile to apple pie, green grape pie has the added benefit of not getting soggy! Made with einkorn flour and maple syrup, this green grape pie recipe is a winner!

Grape pie is not something you see very often any more. But when my 5 year old randomly asked to make green grape pie, my dad piped up that green grape pie had been his grandfather’s favorite – and his own favorite – pie growing up!

It’s not something that I had ever tried, or even heard of, as his mother had stopped baking by the time I was born, however it seems to be in the blood since my son asked for it specifically!

So, after a lot of talking with my dad, I embarked on a journey to recreate this green grape pie recipe!

Since green grapes tend to be very tart, I decided to treat this like a granny smith apple pie in the flavor profiles. The results were amazing! Now this is officially a 4-generation spanning family favorite recipe!

Einkorn Green Grape Pie Recipe

Making the green grape pie is a very simple process that doesn’t involve peeling or cutting the grapes. Instead, just wash them and crush them a bit in a bowl before transferring to the crust (save the juice!).

I still have no idea how he came up with the idea for a green grape pie (doesn’t he look pleased?!), but it was definitely a winner! I think he has a future in recipe development! :-)

Green Grape Pie Ingredients

5 cups green grapes, washed and stemmed
1/2 cup maple syrup
1 tbsp cinnamon powder
1 tsbp einkorn flour
Juice from crushing the grapes
1 einkorn pie crust recipe (makes 2 crusts)

Green Grape Pie Directions

Gently crush the grapes with a masher or spoon, strain juice and add to a small sauce pan. Our mashing only yielded about 2 tbsp.
Add maple syrup, cinnamon, and flour to the grape juice and bring to a boil over low heat. Whisk well until flour is combined, stir until thickened and remove from heat.
Place one crust in bottom of pie pan, add mashed grapes on top. Pour thickened pie filling evenly over the grapes. Top with remaining crust and pinch edges. Pierce top as desired.
Pre-heat oven to 425° and bake pie for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 375° and bake for another 20 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool for 15-20 minutes before serving.

I’m so glad you have enjoyed it! We’ve been having a hard time finding organic grapes (my son has a pesticide allergy) so it’s been a while since we’ve made it :-( BUT we have table grape vines that we are hoping produce this year! They have little bunches on them already, so as long as the deer don’t eat them up, we should be making this pie during the summer!

Best pie ever. I couldn’t believe how delicious it was. I did not have any einkorn flour so used just regular flower and it was still good. Everyone enjoyed it so much. Thank you for posting the recipe.

Oh, I’m so glad you enjoyed it!! It’s a favorite here for sure! Yes, einkorn flour or any all-purpose wheat will work. Well done!! <3
