- No sewing seams together when you’re done.
- No purl stitches, it’s all knitted in the round.

How to Knit a Weasley Sweater in One Day
Knitting a handmade sweater in a single day may seem like the impossible work of a speed knitter. I assure you, I’m no speedy Gonzales when it comes to throwing my needles around. With this simple pattern, you too will know how to knit a sweater in a day!
A few years ago I came up with this pattern that is really simple and fast to make.
So that year for Christmas, everyone in my family (children and adults) got these adorable raglan sweaters. Each one personalized for the person receiving it…
It just so happens that most of my family and friends group happen to love the Harry Potter series. So most of them got “Weasley Sweaters” with their initial.
However, you can leave off the initial, or make it something else (like a dragon, or a car) if you’re not a Harry Potter fan.
NOTE: An adult size sweater will take more than a day to knit! The “8 hour sweater” is only for sizes 2T – Youth S.

After having made about 20 of these (no joke), I can attest that this adorable little sweater really does only take about 8 hours total to make.
It only takes one skein of yarn, so it is very cost effective. You might have enough yarn already, making this a free gift!
Any color or fiber type can be used, I’ve even done this pattern with stripes. I do recommend making sure that the yarn is very soft though. Some of the less expensive yarns can be very course, so just be aware.
*Thrifty Trick: If you make the arms long enough, one sweater can fit a child from 6 months to 2 years. Just roll ’em up while they’re too long, then let them down as the child grows. This also saves your crafting time and money.

Knitted Sweater Pattern
This knitted sweater is a top-down raglan sweater which means there are no seams to sew up and it’s all knitted in the round. If you’re a knitter you can appreciate the lack of purl stitches here… if you’re not a knitter, this is a great pattern to start with.

Here are the sleeves slipped onto holder string while the body is left on the needles to continue knitting.
This is the body finished with the sleeves waiting to be stitched. If you bind the sleeves off at the step where you normally place them on the holder, this makes a really cute girls cap-sleeve shirt!
Here is the finished sweater, before the initial is added. You can really see the raglan increases!
After finishing the sweater I did a duplicate stitch for the initial. The pattern also includes the charts for 2″ and 4.5″ initials!

Would you do a duplicate stitch or leave it a solid color?
I love the look of the duplicate stitch on the front, so that’s what I normally do, but I have made several solid color sweaters that look great as well!
