Recently I was putting together a list of 19 free printables for fall, and I came across this really cool collection of old botanical studies; hand-drawn or painted, detailed images from the 1800's forward.
The Biodiversity Heritage Library Flickr account has over 120,000 vintage images available, spanning all kinds of subjects and time periods. Each one has been scanned in and made available to the public!
I've grabbed just a few of those, cleaned them up a bit to make them all the same size and general color (for the backgrounds), and have them for you here!
You can download them below in 2 different sizes to use as you see fit!
Display for Vintage Printables for Fall
As soon as I saw these gorgeous vintage botanical drawings I knew I wanted to display them in my home for the fall season. But since we live in a tiny house I also knew I wasn't going to have space for a huge collection on a wall somewhere.
On top of all of that I really didn't want to spend a ton on frames, because I'm cheap frugal.
So I went to my local craft store in search of inspiration.
I happened to hit the store on a week where they have all of their open face frames on sale 50% off! So I grabbed this rustic frame for about $30. As soon as I saw it I knew exactly how I wanted to display all of these beautiful fall drawings. I also happened to have everything else I needed at home already (thank you girls), so it was just a matter of putting it all together!
Once I got home I headed to the barn to grab a length of chicken wire and my heavy duty staple gun.
You can get this 1" hexagonal chicken wire at the hardware store, usually in the garden section, for about $8 which will give you enough to make 4 large frames. Make sure you get the kind that's hexagonal like this, unless you don't mind having the squares oriented differently from the wire pictured here.
Then just secure it with staples or with finishing nails that you bend back once they are in the wood enough to stay put. Be sure to bend the edges down after you cut them to size so they aren't sticking out!
I used some clothes pins I had laying around, but you can use any type of clip that you'd like. These metal ones would add to the vintage vibe nicely!
