I love gifting homemade gingerbread men to the people in my life during the holidays. But this year, I decided to gift more than the cookies, but the whole experience of making cookies with your family!

I packaged the mix in clear bags with little windows so you could see the beautiful layers of ingredients. To make the gift extra special, I tied each bag with a festive ribbon and included a gingerbread man cookie cutter, a mini rolling pin, and a cute kitchen towel.

If you don’t have gift bags with windows, a mason jar works just as well, and it looks just as charming!

How to Make Gingerbread Cookie Mix Gift Sets

There’s something incredibly thoughtful about homemade gifts. The ladies at my church absolutely loved their gingerbread cookie mix gifts! They mentioned how easy it was to make the cookies and how delicious they turned out. I gave the mix to them early so they would have time to make it for the holidays.

Whether you’re gifting to friends, neighbors, or coworkers, this gingerbread cookie mix is a heartfelt way to show you care.

This gingerbread cookie mix isn’t just a gift, but it’s about the entire experience of making and sharing the cookies with those around you! That’s what this gift is really all about. Whether they bake them with their kids or share them with loved ones, your recipients will think of you with every bite!

all the ingredients needed for homemade gingerbread cookie mix

Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need to create the gingerbread cookie mix. You probably have everything you need on hand already!

  • Flour: This recipe starts with all-purpose flour. We use einkorn flour, but you can use whatever all-purpose flour you prefer.
  • Leaveners: Baking soda and baking powder help the cookies rise to perfection.
  • Spices: The mix gets its festive flavor from salt, ginger, cloves, and cinnamon. (All Spice is shown, but not used. I ended up not liking it and removed it from the recipe!)
  • Brown Sugar: Brown sugar adds the perfect amount of sweetness and keeps the cookies moist.

Instructions

I like to layer the mix to make it more appealing in the bag/jar. However, you can also just mix all the ingredients together in a single bowl and add them to your container completely mixed! Either way is fine!

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour with the baking soda and baking powder.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the remaining flour with the spices.
  3. Layer the dry ingredients into your bag or jar in this order for a beautiful presentation:
    • Plain flour mixture
    • Brown sugar
    • Spiced flour mixture
  4. Seal the container (bag or jar) tightly and make sure it stays upright to maintain the pretty layers.

How to Package and Gift Your Gingerbread Cookie Mix

Once your mix is assembled, it’s time to package it up! I used these stand-up, sealable food bags with windows, which I adore, but you can use a large mason jar. Be sure to get at least the 5.9×8.7″ bags to hold the mix!

  1. Seal the jar or bag and decorate it with a festive ribbon, holiday fabric, or a bow. I just used a little hot glue to attach it, instead of using a hole punch to add holes to the bag!
  2. Don’t forget to include a gingerbread man cookie cutter (get them in bulk!) or a mini rolling pin to complete the gift. A little dish towel and basket from the craft store are also a nice touch!
  3. Print out our FREE baking instructions label to attach to your gift! The label includes everything the recipient needs to know to turn your thoughtful mix into delicious gingerbread cookies.

I used the Avery Shipping Labels 5264; however, you can print them on cardstock and cut them out like a gift tag.

Create Your Own Label

Want to create your own custom label? I’ve got you covered!

Here are the baking instructions to include:

  • Empty the gingerbread cookie mix into a large mixing bowl. Stir thoroughly to ensure all the ingredients are evenly blended.

Add the following ingredients to the bowl:

  • 1/2 cup softened butter.
  • 3/4 cup molasses.
  • One tablespoon of vinegar.
  • 1 beaten egg.
  • Mix until a stiff dough forms.
  • Cover the dough and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
  • Roll the dough out on a floured surface to about ¼ inch.
  • Use cookie cutters to cut shapes, and place the cookies on the baking sheet, leaving 1 inch of space between each one.
  • Bake for 8–10 minutes or until the cookies are just firm.
  • Let the cookies cool completely before decorating unless you are using hard candies or sprinkles; you want to add those before baking.

Storing This Cookie Mix Gift

When stored properly, the cookie mix in a jar can last up to 6 months. To ensure freshness, keep the jar sealed tightly and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Adding a label with the “best by” date is a thoughtful touch when gifting!
