Cheapest {REAL} Food to Buy in February

Victoria Pruett Author: Victoria Pruett   Updated: April 4, 2024

This seasonal real food guide to what’s on sale in February will help you save money on food without having to buy junk food!

I love buying food in season and this is a great guide for saving money on things you never even thought of! What to buy in February to save money and eat well!

If you shop seasonally you can feed your family the best food for way less than all the processed stuff that’s supposed to be “cheap”! This is a great way to save on quality food items if you don’t want (or can’t have) a garden!

So let’s take a look at what’s on sale for February.

Cheapest {REAL} Food to Buy in February

Of course, there are a lot of things still in season that were on sale in January – Check here for those items – But February has several things that are new this month!

Artichokes

So, funny story, I’ve never had artichokes! Have you? It’s something I’ve always wanted to try but just haven’t gotten around to yet!

Since they are on sale this month I will definitely be trying them soon. This detailed outline of how to cook and eat artichokes looks like the perfect place for a newbie like me to start! How to prepare an artichoke.

Carrots

If you know me, you know that I LOVE carrots. In fact, when I was a baby I would only eat carrots… a lovely trait that resulted in me turning orange and freaking my mom completely out!

Fortunately I just needed a few doctor ordered green beans to get me back to normal ;-)

These delicious veggies are on sale this month! I plan on stocking up and canning a ton of carrots on their own, but I will also be buying extra to turn into Chicken Bone Broth Soup!

Papayas

Papayas don’t show up often around my house, maybe I’ve just never had a good one, but they are definitely not my favorite! My mom on the other hand… She adores papayas. Time to stock up mom!

While papayas don’t lend themselves to canning for later, you can always dry them and save them in an airtight container for the next time a craving hits.

Non-Produce Items on Sale in February

In addition to fresh produce, February also has a few “dry goods” on sale as well!

Canned Goods

My local grocer had organic canned veggies on sale at 25% off this month. I stocked up on green beans for the year!

Chocolate

Since February has that big love holiday right in the middle, you can get a ton of chocolate and other candies on sale this month! Just wait until February 15th :-)

Soy Sauce and Teriyaki Sauce

This one surprised me! At 20% off, I was able to grab several extra bottles of our favorite Tamari (gluten free soy sauce) to have one hand for one of our go to meals in a pinch – Fried Rice!
